I bought this book during the planning stages of my trip to Europe last summer. I knew I was going to be disembarking at Hamburg because we were arriving on the Queen Mary 2. But should I drive towards France or Austria? Both would be relevant to my research, which was one of the purposes of the trip. I would have only ten days. I thought the trip towards France at first had the advantage because it would make for shorter driving days and the terrain would be flatter than if I drove towards the Alps. It would be 222 miles to Cologne. Then it would be only 112 miles to Brussels. From there it would be 54 miles to Bruges. From Bruges we could easily take a day trip to the beach at Dunkirk in northern France. I was on a Third Reich/WW2 trip to Europe. But when I looked up photos of Dunkirk I saw that there wasn't anything there to tour. It would be a disappointing visit. So I decided to drive towards Austria and hit Nuremberg, Munich, and Berchtesgaden instead. I do regret not being able to see Cologne, though.I like Roman ruins. But for someone else with different interests this guide book could be just the thing. P.S. By the way, Dunkirk wasn't even mentioned in the Frommer's Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg guide as a side trip.
